Movie Stills Without a Movie
Posted by Sara under: Japanese film; flickr finds.
A flickr collection that I enjoy: incident(night) by user junko-newcleus.
It reminds me of the film in William Gibson’s Pattern Recognition. The film is black and white, without words, and is released in the tiniest snippets, barely more than stills. The sparseness of it encourages the viewers to dream up their own movie around it, and so they come to see it as partially their creation. The violence that imagined ownership arouses soon ensues, and thus action and plot and adventure.
These stills can also spark the imagination into violence.
